Seymour Center Marine Sciences Merit Badge Exploration Day

Come and Learn from Top Scientists and Make Progress Towards Merit Badges!

In collaboration with the Seymour Marine Discovery Center, this event is an opportunity for Scouts to explore several merit badges through participating in, visiting, and learning about marine wildlife, environmental science, and sustainability! 

While NO MERIT BADGES WILL BE EARNED during the course of the evening, Scouts will be provided with contact information for Merit Badge Counselors to follow up with after attending, if they would like to complete the requirements for any of the three badges offered--and utilize their attendance to count for visitation requirements. 

Primary Merit Badges Explored: 

• Fish and Wildlife Management

• Oceanography

• Sustainability/Environmental Science (TBD)

This Scouts BSA event is intended to engage Scouts over the course of a fun evening--enabling them to learn about and engage with materials related to several merit badges. Should a Scout wish to continue their learning and take on a merit badge, the Seymour Center's Education Team will be signed up as Counselors and can assist Scouts as they complete requirements following the event. While no Scout will be able to complete a Merit Badge that night, and no partials will be awarded, it will provide opportunities for them to start on and engage with Merit Badge curriculum! 

The event will feature programming put on by the Seymour Center's Education Team with potential collaboration alongside UCSC Professors, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Staff, and CA Fish and Wildlife Management Staff. 

Prices: 

• Early Bird: $15 - Register before 9/15/2026

• Regular: $20 - Register before 10/16/2026

• Late: $25 - Register before 11/6/2026
