Level I Climbing Instructor Training

Who: Older youth and Adults interested in supporting Council or Unit Climbing programs
What: Level 1 Climbing instructor training opportunities
When:
- Level 1 Training will be held February 20-21 2026 Camp Chesebrough
- Class starts promptly at 6:30PM on February 20th and departure by 5:30PM February 21
- Registration opens at 5:30 pm on Friday - can arrive earlier to set up camp
Cost:
- Level 1 Training: $70 ( includes Friday Crackerbarrell, Saturday Breakfast and lunch)
Purpose:
To train and certify BSA climbing instructors. The BSA requires two certified BSA climbing instructors for units to hold their own climbing events, one who needs to be a Level II instructor (21+). The second instructor can be a Level I instructor (18+). A scout 16-17 can be certified as a Climbing Instructor in Training. Level II training is valid for 3 years. Level 1 and CIIT are valid for 1 year. Level II training requires previous Level I training or equivalent experience
- Level 1 can support a council or unit climbing event under the direction of a Level 2 instructor. [Note: a scout 16-17 can take a level 1 course and be certified as Climbing Instructor in Training]
General Prerequisites:
- Must be registered with Scouting America
- Adults must have completed Safeguarding Youth training.
- Must have current Class A&B Medical form
Prerequesites for Level I course
- There will be required online training to be completed prior to the start of the class. Details will be sent once registered
- Come dressed for outdoor activities some basic climbing will be required as part of the instruction
- Must attend whole course and complete online prerequesites to be certified
