Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (iOLS) (S11)
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (iOLS) is a hands-on training open to all registered adults. It teaches adult leaders how to successfully run a Scouts BSA camp-out and teaches the practical skills needed in Scouts BSA. This is a required training for all Scoutmasters and ASMs but everyone is welcomed.
On Friday September 6th, 2024, we'll assemble at Chesebrough at 6 p.m. for check-in, campsite selection and setup, and to begin instruction.
Please bring a completed BSA Annual Health and Medical Record - Parts A, and B, # 680-001, 2019 Printing. http://www.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/680-001_AB.pdf
Please wear your Scout uniform, and bring rain gear and layers, as the weather may change rapidly in the Santa Cruz mountains (and it’s never the same as in the valley). Please bring a mug and/or water bottle, Scout BSA Handbook and pen & paper. Please eat dinner before you arrive, or bring a “no-prep” meal with you. We will provide the ingredients, and you will prepare all your meals for Saturday and Sunday.
The Patrols (this means you) will be putting on a Campfire on Saturday. Bring some ideas/skits/songs/stories/run-ons, etc. to aid the process. Please let us know if you have any physical limitations, special dietary or medical needs so we can Be Prepared before the course begins.
You will be outdoors most of the time. Your campsites will be about 200 yards (uphill) from the parking area. You will be required to carry your gear, you will not be able to drive to the campsite.
Overnight gear, outdoor essentials and appropriate clothing are the heart of camping equipment. Please refer to the Scout BSA Handbook, chapter 9, “Camping.”
You should bring:
Appropriate closed toed foot wear - you’ll be outside on rocky, wooded, uneven, unpaved terrain
Hat
Scouts BSA Handbook
Scout Uniform (wear)

Water bottle/canteen, cup
Personal First Aid Kit, suitable for hiking
