Compete in the SVMBC Camp Chesebrough Iron Chef Challenge!

Step into the kitchen and develop hands-on skills to help you plan and conduct Pack or Troop campouts with confidence—starting with food! This live cooking experience is designed specifically for leaders and volunteers who serve groups of 30 or more in an industrial kitchen environment.

What you'll learn:

- Develop a balanced and nutritionally sound camp menu with a focus on fiber content

- Budget excellently for your camping in today’s economy

- Create menus, share recipes, and collaborate with other leaders - Keeping kitchen cleanliness and food safety standards in check is important.

- ServSafe Food handler certificate recommended 

Weekend Overview

Friday

  • Arrival, check-in, introductions, and safety briefing
  • Orientation to the kitchen space and equipment
  • Hands-on training begins immediately
  • Evening cracker barrel and required paperwork
  • Initial meal preparation as part of training for Cub Fun Day

Saturday

  • Prepare and serve breakfast for approximately 50 people as a team
  • Post-meal cleanup, followed by a debrief to review successes and opportunities for improvement
  • Continue course instruction, preparing for lunch service
  • Prepare and serve approximately 300 lunches over two serving periods
  • Post-lunch cleanup, followed by more coursework
  • Menu planning workshop, focusing on how you can apply what you’ve learned to your own Pack or Troop, including cost-saving ideas and recipe sharing

What to Bring

  • Tent and camping gear
  • Hygiene kit
  • Non-slip shoes or comfortable all-day wear
  • Cooking apron (if you have one)
  • Hair net or hair ties (if needed)
  • Scouting America Medical Form Parts A & B
  • Notepad and writing materials

Come ready to cook, collaborate, and leave with real-world skills you can immediately bring back to your unit!
