Join us for an in-person merit badge training class.

To qualify as a Merit Badge Counselor, you must:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Be proficient in the merit badge subject by vocation or avocation
• Be able to work with Scout age youth
• Be registered with the Boy Scouts of America (A separate registration as a Merit Badge Counselor)

The requirements for adults interested in supporting Scouting BSA as a Merit Badge Counselor (MBC) are as follows:

• Attend a MBC training course at one of the offered sessions from the Council, at University of Scouting, or BSA’s online training.
• Bring to MBC training event or provide to Council:
• A  Completed Adult Application (use Position code 42)
• Copy of a Current Safeguarding Youth certificate. Complete Safeguarding Youth Training (YPT) here.
• Completed Merit Badge Counselor Information worksheet indicating which Merit Badges you’re interested in.  (List of Merit Badges)
• Merit Badge Counselor training date written on all documents.
• If this is your first time registering with Scouting, complete California Assembly Bill 506 – Youth Protection Training and Life Scan and print the certificate
