Cub Scouts, get ready to race!

Our Council-level Pinewood Derby returns in 2026!   Join us as our fastest racers across the council compete for the fastest in the Los Padres Council!

Event Details:

Date: Sunday, April 26, 2026
Event Time: 11:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Race Start Time: 12:30 PM (heats begin promptly)

Location: The Pavilion on the Lake – Lakeside Room
9315 Pismo Ave, Atascadero, CA 93422

This event is free to register and free to race, making it accessible for all Scouts and families to participate.

We’re looking forward to a fun and competitive day of racing, creativity, and Scout spirit!

Lunch Option

We will be offering an optional lunch for $5 per meal, which includes:

• A hot dog or burger
• Chips
• Bottled water

Dietary options available: Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free meals will be offered.

If you plan to purchase lunch, please indicate this during registration so we can ensure we have enough food for everyone.

Rules:

According to the Scouting America's Cub Scout Leader How-To-Book, the general rules are as follows:

• All cars must be built from official Scouting America kits
• Pre-cut blocks may be used only if purchased from the Los Padres service center or scoutshop.org 
• Alternate wheels and axles purchased from Scoutshop.org may also be used

All cars must pass the following inspection to qualify for the race:

• Width shall not exceed 2-3/4 inches.
• Length shall not exceed 7 inches.
• Weight shall not exceed 5 ounces.
• Axles, wheels, and body shall be from the materials provided in the kit. Additional wheels can be purchased separately.
• Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are prohibited.
• No lubricating oil may be used. Axles may be lubricated with powdered graphite or silicone.
• The car shall not ride on any kind of spring.
• The car must be free-wheeling, with no starting devices.
• No loose materials of any kind are allowed in the car
