Complete Angler Weekend Camp Out
Gibson Ranch Regional Park
October 3rd - 5th, 2025

Spend the weekend at Gibson Ranch Regional Park fishing and earn 3 Fishing merit badges. Those scouts earning all three will receive the Complete Angler Award with the patch they can wear on their uniform. The weekend starts on Friday evening at 6 pm and finishes on Sunday afternoon at 1pm. 

This years event will be set up to include some patrol competitions to make it more fun and exciting.  More information will be shared at a later time.  Everyone who registers will receive a event t-shirt and patch.  All patrols will cook their own meals in their campsite. Saturdays dinner for those who wish to participate will be a cooking competition that includes fish.

By the end of the weekend session, Scouts should be able to complete most if not all of the requirements for the 3 merit badges. After the weekend Scouts will make a presentation on fishing to their troop, pack or crew to finalize their Complete Angler Award.

Prerequisites:

Willingness to learn

Interest in fishing

Willing to complete some requirements on their own prior to the weekend so that all requirements can be signed off during the weekend.

Different kinds of fishing equipment and their purpose

Fishing regulations

Leave No Trace while fishing

How to fly cast

Cleaning & cooking fish

All about flies and artificial lures

Fly tying (tie 2 flies)

*To complete the award, Scouts will make a presentation to their Troop, Crew, Ship, or a Cub Scout pack. Their assignment is to teach others a specific fishing topic of their choice.

All equipment will be provided. Scouts are welcome to bring their fly fishing equipment or spin cast rods if they want.  For more information about the event and the Angling Award, please see the attachments. 

$80.00 per Scout which includes all program supplies, camping, event t-shirt and event patch
$40.00 per adult, which includes camping, event t-shirt and event patch, program supplies to go fishing.
