Welcome to BALOO training!

 

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is a training program for Cub Scout leaders and parents. The course teaches how to plan and lead Cub Scout camping trips. What's included: Online pre-requisite: An online component that must be completed before the in-person training. In-class sessions: Two in-class sessions that cover BSA Cub Scout camping policies and necessary tools. Overnight camping: An overnight camping experience that includes hands-on practice. Who should take it: Cubmasters, Den leaders, Other pack leaders, Parents, and any adult who plans a pack campout. What's learned: How to plan and lead a successful Cub Scout-level overnight activity, how to have fun in the outdoors, and the focus of the Cub Scout level of the BSA outdoor program Why take it: To add a camping component to Cub Scout pack activities, to prepare to lead Cub Scout camping trips, and to meet the requirement to lead a pack overnighter. BALOO is a hands-on program that gives adult leaders a practical introduction to the patrol method of a youth-led troop by teaching many of the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. In addition, the teaching methods, activities, and games model the variety of teaching used in effective and engaging Scouting programs.
