Interested in being a lifeguard?

Scouts and adults, age 15 and up, are able to take the training. Strong swimming ability is necessary.

Note: initial registration is $25, then after passing prerequisites, an additional fee is collected (see below)

Red Cross Lifeguard training with Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer--Requires taking and passing the Red Cross 8hr online training before the in person class begins.  Access to online training will be given prior to class.

Prerequisites will be conducted on Saturday, May 23rd.

Prerequisite 1:

 1. Submit proof of age and BSA Registration. You must be at least 15 years old to participate.

 2. Submit written evidence of fitness for swimming activities (signed health history from medical form). 

 3. Swim continuously for 150 yards in good form using the front crawl or breaststroke or a combination of either, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim googles are allowed.

 4. Immediately following the above swim, maintain position at the surface and tread water for two minutes using the legs only and with the hands under the armpits. 

5. Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or combination of both. 

Prerequisite 2:

Starting in the water with no googles, swim 20 yards using a front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, surface, swim on your back with the object 20 yards back to the starting point with both hands holding the object, and exit the water without using ladder or steps---all within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Cost: Once prerequisites are passed on Saturday ( Note $355 value at Rose Bowl )

           $275 Camp Trask (This can be waived if lifeguard signs up to give AT MINIMUM 40 hours of service at the pool over the season)

            $80 cash or zelle to David Hensley for Red Cross fee and Lifeguard Hip Pack with gloves and CPR mask.
