BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation)

BALOO is a required two-part training program designed to prepare Cub Scout leaders with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to safely and successfully lead Cub Scouts in the great outdoors. The training consists of an online prerequisite followed by a hands-on, overnight outdoor training experience where participants put what they have learned into practice.

During the hands-on portion, leaders will learn essential outdoor skills and best practices, including campsite selection and setup, outdoor ethics and Leave No Trace principles, meal planning and preparation, campfire safety, safe camping practices, outdoor program planning, and creating fun and meaningful outdoor experiences for Cub Scouts. 

The overnight portion provides participants with the opportunity to learn alongside other Scouting leaders, practice essential camping skills, and gain the confidence necessary to plan and conduct safe, age-appropriate pack camping experiences.

BALOO Training at Firestone Scout Reservation

This BALOO training will be held at Firestone Scout Reservation, providing an ideal outdoor setting for leaders to experience the skills and techniques they will use when camping with their Cub Scout packs.

Please note: Participants must complete the required online BALOO prerequisite before attending the in-person overnight training. Successful completion of both portions is required for BALOO certification.
