Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) at Firestone
Working in Patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to help youth advance through the program and obtain the First Class rank. Leaders will gain motivation and insight into how to deliver the program within a Troop setting.
IOLS is one of the three course required to be considered a “trained” leader at the Troop level (the others are “Youth Protection” and “Scout Leader Specific”)
Course dates and times: The course will be held Saturday, March 16 to Sunday, March 17, 2024. The course starts at 8:00 AM Saturday morning and ends at 11:30 AM Sunday. This is an overnight event and attendance BOTH days and overnight are required to complete the training. You will provide your own camping equipment.
Course location: Firestone Scout Reservation. 19001 Tonner Canyon Rd, Brea, CA 92821
Participation Fee: $50 includes lunch and dinner on Saturday and Breakfast on Sunday, snacks, resource materials and instruction.
Required information to register: Full name (as on membership card), Scout membership ID #, address, phone, email, Troop # and position), and any dietary restrictions, BSA Leadership Position training completed. Must provide Medical Form A&B upon arrival at training (it will be returned). Recommend Scout Leader Specific completed prior to IOLS.
Registration will close on Friday, March 1, 2024 and the course is limited to the first 36 participants.
