20 Mile Hike - Gabrielino National Recreation Trail
Date & Time: Saturday, December 6, 2025 7:00 AM
Cost: Free Registration
20 Mile Hike:
Join us on our 20-mile hike to help you complete the Hiking Merit Badge. This is a strenuous 20 mile hike of the Gabrielino National Recreation Trail in the Angeles National Forest.
This is an out-and-back hike where we hike 10 miles into the wilderness along the Gabrielino National Recreation Trail. There are 56 stream crossings to wade. We have found that what works best is to wear trail runners or sturdy athletic shoes and simply wade across the streams and hike with wet feet. Leave a pair of dry pair of shoes in the car for the ride home. Recommended socks are merino wool socks (best), or synthetic athletic socks (no cotton). We will finish the hike in full darkness, about 1.5 hours after sunset.
We will hike at a relaxed pace with plenty of rest stops. Scouts will call or text parents mid-afternoon with the exact time to be picked up. Parents are also welcome to join us on the hike.
- Registration closes on November 29th.
- We will meet at 7:00 am.
- We will have a brief coordination meeting on Zoom two days before the hike (Thursday at 7:30 PM)
