This 10 mile hike is to help Scouts earn the hiking merit badge.
We will have lunch and watch bungee jumping off the bridge.

Start & End: Bridge to Nowhere trailhead parking lot. Google maps lists this as "Bridge to Nowhere Trailhead, Camp Bonita Road"
Elevation gain: 1000’; Miles: 10; Estimated hiking time: 7 hours
Rain or shine (if an inch or more of rain is predicted we will reschedule the hike since the East Fork of the San Gabriel River will rise during rainstorms)

Required Equipment:
Ten Essentials (including 2-3 liters of water)
Sturdy footwear (trail runners or running shoes are good, hiking boots are OK too)

Wool socks are the best choice for the portion of the hike where we are crossing the stream a dozen times, since they are comfortable when wet. Scouts can carry dry socks and a second pair of running shoes or hiking boots.

Do not bring sandals or Crocs for stream crossings. We will just splash through the water in our running shoes and keep hiking. Participants who bring dry shoes or hiking boots can put them on after the 2-mile long section that has about a dozen river crossings.

There will be a mandatory zoom meeting with participants beforehand for a gear check and to go over final instructions. An email will be sent with the date and time of the meeting - please expect to attend.

Parents and scoutmasters are welcome to hike with us, but adults must be in shape, i.e. have completed several lengthy hikes fairly recently. Parents can sign up as part of their Scout's registration. Other adults attending without a Scout should contact Sheila Stewart at sheandjc@yahoo.com to sign up.
