TRAIL TO FIRST CLASS

Saturday, November 5, 2022

Boulder Creek Scout Reservation

Scoutmaster,

Redwood district is hosting the Trail to First Class this year. We hope to have all the stations that we have had in the past. We will have sessions that cover most of the skills & knowledge requirements for all the ranks up to and including First Class. Most sessions will be 1 hour long, and we offer them three times in the day. A few sessions take longer, and they are 2 hours long. We aim to offer sessions more than once throughout the day.

Saturday Schedule:

7:30 a.m. - Check-In

8:30 a.m. - Flag Ceremony

9:00 a.m. - Morning Sessions Begin

12:00 p.m. - Lunch Break (Units provide their own lunch)

1:00 p.m. - Afternoon Sessions Begin

4:00 p.m. - Event Ends

We will not do an organized 5-mile orienteering hike; however, your Unit may use our excellent hiking trails at Boulder Creek to complete this requirement.

The event is Saturday only, but registered Units will be allowed to spend the night at camp on Friday and Saturday as a Unit Campout. All campers must leave by noon on Sunday. See below for details to make your camping reservation.

Session Instructors: Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Parents, and/or First Class Scouts or higher. Adults must have YPT. We ask for volunteers from each attending troop to have instructors for sessions. Once the sessions are finalized, copies will be sent to everyone, so that they can volunteer for a session. It is a great time to get new Scout parents, and ASMs into helping Scouts. If the troop has a Scout who will conduct a session, it is the judgement of the Scoutmaster if the Scout is capable. You may want to have 2 Scouts work together. Or you may want a Scout and an adult working together. More than one adult can work a session. It can be a great way to get new parents involved and introduce them to the scouting program.

Registration for Scouts BSA Youth and Scouts BSA Adults is by Unit. However, we are allowing individual scouts to attend as Provisional Scouts on Saturday with their parent/guardian if their troop is not participating. Each "Provisional Scout" registration must include a "Provisional Adult" registration.

Overnight Camping for Units: Each troop does their own cooking. There is no campwide campfire. In the evenings, it is a great time for the Scouts to do their own programs. Also, it is a good time for the leaders to review the requirements completed by each Scout.

Units are encouraged to camp overnight at BCSR the night before (and Saturday, too, if you want). You must contact Adela Wright at adela.wright@scouting.org to reserve a campsite before the event.

All campsite reservations will be made through the council office on a first come, first served basis.

Please provide your unit number; contact name, email address and phone number; camping dates, number of youth and number of adults; 3 campsite requests in order of preference or state "no preference."

The camping fee is $8 per person per night; however, some campsites do have a minimum fee (varies by campsite).

Units must pay the camping reservation fee online prior to arrival at camp.
