Snow Camping Training
Conduct fun and safe snow trips for your troop or crew! Learn about appropriate clothing and equipment, cooking techniques, weather considerations, shelter construction and much more! Bring back to your troop or crew the experience of the hands-on winter outdoor training for Scouts BSA or Venturing trips and a weekend camping in the snow!
Why:
This Course is a must for leading winter camping and backpacking trips for Pacific Skyline Council Scouts BSA and Venture units. Continue your troop or crew's outdoor adventures year-round!
Who:
Registered adult Scout leaders and senior Scouts. Senior Scouts over age 16 may participate with two-deep leadership with the approval of the Course Director. Scouts must also have an appropriate buddy to meet Buddy System requirements. Once approval is granted, senior Scouts will be registered through the council, not via online registration. All participants should have moderate backpacking and camping experience and a thorough knowledge of BSA procedures. Prior completion of the High Adventure Training (Outdoor Awareness) course is highly recommended. This course is open to out of council members.

Attendance at all sessions is required to earn the certificate.
What:
Participants learn how to lead BSA Winter Trips in the Sierra Nevada which are fun and safe. You will construct snow shelters or tents and prepare at least three meals in the snow to gain hands-on experience with snow camping. This course has a tradition of heavy snowfall, so plan on a blizzard! Course may be canceled due to low enrollment or lack of snow. Location of Session 3 is TBD, pending snow pack in the Sierra Nevada.
