Our Commitment to Safety – COVID-19 Preparations for Outdoor Programs

In surveys the BSA sent out to more than 14,500 unit leaders, two-thirds of those polled indicated they were feeling positive about restarting Scouting. Some respondents were not meeting, and one of the big reasons was virtual fatigue. We get it. We’re ready to get back to seeing each other in-person again — serving the community, going on fun outings and having outdoor adventures. But these activities must be done safely.

The Pacific Skyline Council will be following all local, state, and federal regulations for managing the spread of COVID-19 during our 2021 outdoor programs. These regulations change from time to time and it is anticipated that regulations in effect in February 2021 will change to some degree by the summer. In light of this, we are planning protocols that we anticipate will be required and erring on the side of stricter protocols. We are using the American Camp Association’s field guide developed in cooperation with the CDC, as well as the most up to date guidance from the Boy Scouts of America and the health departments of the counties we operate in.

We are planning for possible protocols that include,

  • Pre-program medical screenings
  • Program check-in medical screenings
  • Daily medical screenings for multi-day programs
  • Physical distancing
  • Face coverings
  • Cleaning and sanitation of facilities and equipment
  • Special protocols for food service operations
    • Includes outdoor dining only
  • Minimizing shared restrooms

Specific protocols for your event will be determined based on current regulations and guidance. Prior to attending a program, participants and their families will receive information specific to that program. Attendees will also be briefed upon arrival at any program.
