TRAIL TO FIRST CLASS

NOV. 6 2021

BOULDER CREEK SCOUT RESERVATION

Scoutmaster,

Redwood district is hosting the Trail to First Class this year. We hope to have all the stations that we have had in the past. We will have sessions that cover most of the skills & knowledge requirements for all the ranks up to and including First Class. Most sessions will be 1 hour long, and we offer them three times in the day. A few sessions take longer, and they are 2 hours long and are offered once in the morning and once in the afternoon.

Groups arrive on Saturday morning, Check-In starting at 7:30am. We will have a flag ceremony on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. The training sessions will begin at 9:00 a.m. At 12:00pm we will have a lunch break. The afternoon sessions will start at 1:00 p.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. All training sessions are on Saturday. We usually do a 5-mile orienteering hike on Sunday morning but that will not be available at this event by our Staff, however, your Unit is more than welcome to use our excellent hiking trails at Boulder Creek to complete this.

The event will end on Saturday, but registered Units will be allowed to spend the night at camp on Saturday as a Unit Campout but must be out by noon on Sunday.

All Council programs and properties now require the following:

Pre-Screening Checklist! Please read, complete, and sign before arrival at any PacSky camp or activity. That can be  found at https://pacsky.org/coronavirus-scouting-activities/
Mask Up! All participants need to be masked unless actively eating!
Temp Checks! These will be performed on each participant upon arrival. If anyone has a high temperature, the entire carload will be asked to head home for everyone’s safety.

Session instructors are: Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Parents, and/or First Class Scouts or higher. Adults must have YPT. We ask for volunteers from each troop coming to have instructors for sessions. When I get the sessions finalized, I will send copies to everyone, so that they can volunteer for a session. It is a great time to get new Scout parents, and ASMs into helping Scouts. If the troop has a Scout who will conduct a session, it is the judgement of the Scoutmaster if the Scout is capable. You may want to have 2 Scouts work together. Or you may want a Scout and an adult working together. More than one adult can work a session. It can be a great way to get new parents involved in the program in a non-threatening way.

Each troop does their own cooking. There is no camp-wide campfire. In the evenings, it is a great time for the Scouts to do their own programs. Also, it is a good time for the leaders to review the requirements completed by each Scout.
