Snow Camping Training

Event Details

Why: This Course is a must for leading winter camping and backpacking trips for Pacific Skyline Council Scout and Venture Units. Continue your Troop's outdoor adventures year-round!

Who: Registered adult Scout leaders and Senior Scouts. Senior Scouts over age 16 may participate with two deep leadership and approval of the Course Director. All participants should have moderate backpacking and camping experience and a thorough knowledge of BSA procedures. Prior completion of the High Adventure Training (Outdoor Awareness) course is highly recommended.

Participants learn how to lead BSA Winter Trips in the Sierra Nevada which are fun and safe. You will construct snow shelters or tents and prepare at least three meals in the snow to gain hands-on experience with snow camping. This course has a tradition of heavy snowfall, so plan on a blizzard! Course may be canceled due to low enrollment or lack of snow.
