Range Activity - Pistols
Details:
A fun event to educate and coach Scouts in pistol and range safety, including a practical exercise. All Scouts will participate in and complete the standard Pistol First Steps class. After this training they will have the opportunity to put theory into practice - operating .22 caliber pistols on the range. All live fire exercises will be supervised in the seated position with a ratio of 1:1 Pistol Instructors and Scouts.
Emergency contact(s) for each Scout must be a parent or legal guardian.
No bulk registrations. Each Scout must register separately.
Class Size: a maximum of 12 Scouts.
Scout age requirements: Scouts aged 14 and above are welcome to register.
What to bring:
- Completed Shooting Permission Form for Older Scouts. PLEASE NOTE: the Scouting requirements for the use of pistols has changed recently. The permission form refers to "Venturers, Explorers, Sea Scouts only", but as long as the Scout is 14 or older you may check the "Handguns" box even it they are not one of the types of Scout listed.
- Lunch, water bottle, snack and sunscreen.
- It is mandatory that participants wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts and closed toed footwear.
- Early mornings are windy and cool, so bring a jacket or hoodie. A baseball cap is helpful to keep the sun out of a Scout's eyes on sunny days.
Equipment:
- All necessary equipment will be provided.
Course Agenda (April 6th):
- 8:00am: Check in
- 8:30am - 10:30am: Pistol First Steps class
- 10:30am - 1:00pm: Practical instruction
- 1:00pm - 1:30pm: Debrief
- Parents may attend the class and observe the practical exercise from behind the marked line, or return at 1:30pm for pick up.
