Scouting America: Fleet Week Airshow + BBQ

Event Details

Join Scouting America's Golden Gate District (San Francisco + Daly City) for a great day! We'll watch the Fleet Week Airshow from the comfort of the lawn at the Sea Scout Base, while also grilling up some scout-favorite meals. Family members, scouts, prospective scouts and friends are all welcome!

What to bring:

  • Lawn chair and/or blanket to put on the lawn
  • Water (there is no water available at the Sea Scout Base)
  • Earplugs for those who are sensitive (the airshow is really close!)
  • Sun protection
  • Wear your Scouting Class B (t-shirts!) with pride. No need to wear you Class A (unless you want to).
  • You are welcome to bring your own food, or purchase a plate of BBQ food (see registration page)

Lunch?!:

Troop 74 from Pacifica will be running the BBQ at this event. $10 (priced to defray the cost of food, must be paid at registration time) will get you a burger/hot dog, drink and bag of chips to enjoy on the lawn at the Sea Scout base. We're planning to start serving around 11:30am and stop serving around 2pm. We are happy to accomodate friends who are vegetarian and vegan. We cannot guarantee a gluten-free environment, however.

What to expect:

The Fleet Week Airshow generally starts at around 12:30pm, with the Blue Angels being the final performance, starting around 3pm; generally the Air Show is complete around 4pm. During that time, we'll be hanging out with scout friends at the Sea Scout Base, enjoying the Air Show and each other's company! More info on the airshow: https://fleetweeksf.org/air-show/

Our Makani Explorer Club will be offering rides in the outrigger canoe (thank to Captain Maggie!) starting around Noon.

If you/your scout gets a bit restless, you can hike up to the hill to the adjacent Fort Mason, which also has great views of the airshow. Ghiradelli Square is also very close by and has lots of restaurants (and ice cream!). The Hyde Street Pier has historic ships to check out! The Museum of the Eye has also invited all scouts to come visit (free).

Other things to note:

Porta potties will be setup near by to the Sea Scout Base (there is no bathroom inside the Sea Scout Base). Parking in the area can be a challenge during Fleet Week; the nearest paid parking is at Ghiradelli Square. The 19, 28, 30, 43 and 49 busses all stop within a few minutes' walk of the Sea Scout Base. The Powell & Hyde Cable Car is also close by.

Reminder: no alcohol is permitted at Scouting events
