Climbing L2B Instructor Training/Certification

Purpose:
Train and certify Scouting America's Level 2 climbing instructors (new or recertification). Scouting requires two certified Scouting America's climbing instructors in order for units to hold their own climbing events, at least one who is a Level 2 instructor. Grade A using artificial walls, Grade B for climbing on natural rock with anchored bolts and/or trees/boulders for top roping.
Requirements:
Level II climbing Instructors must be at least 21 years of age, be registered with Scouting America, be current with YPT, have Medical form parts A and B, and meet the BMI chart in part C of the medical form at the time of the course.
Level I Climbing Instructors need only be 18 years old and satisfy all other requirements.
Please stay at home if you have any signs of illness within 48 hours of the course.
Class size:
Class size is limited to 16 participants for Level 2-B (and lower) training. Waitlist will be available, as needed.
About the training:
Climbing Instructor Level 2 instruction is further divided into Grades A through C.
· Grade A is an instructor at artificial walls.
· Grade B certified instructors for sites using natural anchors (i.e., boulders or trees) or climbing bolts installed by qualified individuals. This course requires 30 hours of classwork.
· Grade C certified instructors for sites where protective gear (nuts, stops, cams, blocks, etc.) must be used to create one or more top rope anchors and will NOT be offered on this course.
· Level I Instructors are climbing instructors ages 18 -20 or those 21 and older who did not receive Level 2 certification but who met all other requirements for the course.
Checking begins at 6pm on Friday, May 15th. Coursework begins at 8pm on Friday and extends to Sunday (early evening). Class should be finished by/around 5PM Sunday, May 17th, depending on class size and pace. Please plan accordingly.
PREWORK will be assigned, is mandatory, and should be completed by the evening of Wednesday, May 13th. When registering, please use the email where you can be contacted for prework and other class preparations.
Participants will receive an evaluation and a final examination, which will be used to certify either Level I, Level 2-A, Level 2-B, or Level 2-C certifications. Level 2 Certifications are Valid for three (3) years from the course completion Date. Level 1 certifications are good for one (1) year.
