Bike Rodeo 2025! New Location!

Date: Saturday May 10, 2025
Time: Sessions begin at 10am, 11am, 1pm and 2pm. Each session is approximately 90 minutes.
Location: Back parking lot of Stonestown (where the Farmer's Market is held on Sundays)

Come to our San Francisco Bike Rodeo! We are excited to partner with the California Highway Patrol, San Francisco Fire Department and many more agencies for this event. At this event youth will:

1. Learn important bike safety lessons - including how to navigate traffic, use hand signals and ride safely on San Francisco's streets and bikeways.
2. Have their bike and helmet inspected - mechanics will be on-hand to help scouts adjust their helmets to a proper fit, and inspect their bikes for any safety concerns.
3. Go for a short bike ride - we'll take the kids (and family members!) on a short bike ride around the Lakeshore neighorhood, with a longer (family-led) option that goes around Lake Merced. 
4. Test out a MUNI Bus Bike Rack - Ever wanted to use the bike racks on a MUNI bus but were afraid of holding up the bus? We'll have a bus on hand so you can practice with zero stress!
5. We will have a special Golden Gate Area Council Bike Rodeo Activity Patch for those that complete an activity! 

If you want to get your youth more comfortable with biking in a group, this is the perfect event!

Important information:

• The program offered at all five sessions (10am-11:30am, 11am-12:30pm, 1pm-2:30pm and 2pm-3:30pm) is exactly the same and there is a maximum of 60 youth per session
• A parent or other responsible adult must accompany their registered youth at all times, except for the short bike ride portion. Family members are welcome for the bike ride portion but are not required to accompany their youth.
• Please park your vehicle in the designed parking area (parking is free). You are encouraged to ride your bike to/from the event!

Attendees should bring: Bike, Bike Helmet, Water Bottle, Snack, Sunscreen

Will loaner bikes be available at the event? Possibly -- we are working with a major international bike brand to have some of their demo bikes onhand. Let us know! During the registration you'll see a question about needing to borrow a bike; we will work to accomodate all requests and let you know ahead of time if we were able to or not. Earlier registrants will have priority!

This is a free event open to scout and non-scout youth from ages 5 to 17! Those involved in scouting are invited to wear their uniform for this event. Bring friends!

As a current Scouts BSA member, can I earn some merit badges?:

YES! For the second year we are offering partials in the Cycling Merit Badge. Completion of the other Cycling Merit Badge requirements will be coordinated between you and a Merit Badge Counselor. The partial Cycling Merit Badge course will take place from 10am to 12:30pm. Be sure to register!

We are also happy to offer, for the first time, a partial in the Traffic Safety Merit Badge. This course will be taught by a CHP volunteer, and the second portion of the Traffic Safety Merit Badge, which will complete the course, will be taught at the CHP Office in San Francisco during a weekend session, to be scheduled for late May or early June.

Last, we are also offering a COMPLETE Merit Badge - Disability Awareness. Taught by volunteers from BORP, there are two sessions for this Merit Badge; scouts need only attend one the other session (they can volunteer to earn service hours for the remainder of the day).
