Sign up for a unique opportunity to learn about Astronomy while camping under the stars at Rancho Los Mochos this August 14-15.

Taught by experts with the Eastbay Astronomical Society, this event is open to all Scouts BSA willing to learn more about how activities in space affect our own planet. You will be able to bear witness to the wonders of the night sky: the nebulae, or giant clouds of gas and dust where new stars are born; old stars dying and exploding; meteor showers and shooting stars; the moon, planets, and a dazzling array of stars.

The August 14 night sky offers excellent stargazing. Key highlights include a Waxing Crescent Moon, the brilliant Summer Triangle high overhead, and the spectacular Perseid meteor shower still trailing through the atmosphere.

Please note: the event will NOT guarantee a complete Astronomy MB, but a MB counselor will be on site to fill out Blue cards.

Please plan to have dinner at home and arrive by 7pm on Friday, August 14. Program will start at 8:00pm. Scouts should be able to sleep under the stars after the program ends and a quick craker barrel (expect 10-10:30pm).

Morning breakfast on August 15 will be available from 7:30am. Scouts can leave anytime after that.

Registration ($25/attendee) is OPEN to the first 30 Scouts that sign up and will CLOSE on August 8 at midnight. Parents are welcome to stay (registration required) or just drop off / pick up Scouts.

Attending Adults MUST be registered with Scouting America, be current with their AB-506 certificate, Safeguarding Youth Training, and LifeScan (fingerprinting). Medical forms (A+B) are required

Due to Los Mochos road conditions, no cars will be allowed uphill after 8:00pm on Friday evening. Drivers: Carpooling and overnight stay strongly recommended vs. drop-offs/pick-ups.

This event is predicated upon fair weather conditions. The event will be held rain-or-shine, but will severely be impacted by bad weather.
