Ocean to the Redwoods Adventure 2025

Ocean to the
Redwoods Adventure
*In the event that 12 Scouts register, there will be a waitlist. We will admit a few Scouts into the program from the waitlist depending on the final size of the cohort.
What is it?
This tailored adventure is a new program for our council. Join a diverse cohort of 12 campers in a week long, high adventure experience. Curated for the camper who is eager for excitement: backpacking, beach exploration, leadership development, high ropes course, and outdoor survivalist teachings abound.
Who are you?
You are outdoor focused, leadership enthused, and looking for an experience not offered at any of our summer camps! If you’ve already earned every badge at camp, this is the next step in your Scouting career. You will walk away with a deeper appreciation of nature, yourself, and your place in the world.
Who are we?
Your cohort leaders consist of two former summer camp staff members. Both have professional experience in outdoor recreation and youth development. With a combined experience of over 20 years of backpacking, your journey will be facilitated in safe and enthusiastic hands.
What do you need to pack?
Campers must come prepared with their own materials to backpack a single overnight, in addition to a week at camp. A full detailed list can be found here. It is important to note that participants will need to be able to carry 40-50 lbs on their person for a portion of the trip.
Who can attend?
Registered members of Scouting America, aged 14-20. All genders are welcome to participate. We will only take 12 Scouts and 2 adults. Provisional Scouts are highly encouraged to attend. You can also bring a buddy or two. We intend for a group of strangers to leave with a familial bond and request that no more than 3 Scouts per Troop join this experience.
Why now?
In honor of the 100th Anniversary of Camp Royaneh, this program will honor the retired Russian Gulch Trek. This doesn’t mean you have to be a Royaneh camper– Scouts from all across the state are welcome to join!
What will we do?
The program will start and end at Camp Royaneh, located in the stunning redwood forest of Cazadero. We will go off property for an overnight backpacking experience, a trip to local tidepools, river excursion, and ropes course activities can all be expected. A rough outline of merit badge requirements that will be covered can be found here; scroll the tabs at the bottom of the screen to also see a weekly itinerary. All Barriers to Abuse, Youth Protection Protocol, and Guide to Safe Scouting will be followed.
When is it?
We will offer this program for one week only. Campers are encouraged to attend this program in addition to or in lieu of their traditional summer camp week. We will run from Sunday, June 28 through Saturday, July 5
Where is it?
The program will start and end at Camp Royaneh. We will go off property to several locations in the nearby area.
What is the value of this program?
Traditional leadership development programs like this can cost up to a thousand dollars. This style of activity is resume building, and will be something that your Scout can use to write about in their college applications. It holds truth to the mission of Scouting to prepare young people to make ethical choices throughout their lives by teaching them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. It is our intention of keeping this program accessible to any who choose to participate, which is why it will match the same price of summer camp at $789. Early bird discount and out of council fees apply.
Questions?
We will host an info session on April 23 at 7pm, via google meet, to cover all prep and answer any questions. Link will be sent out to participants and via request for those interested. If there are questions in advance, you may reach out to Area Director Matt Lindberg (croraadventure@gmail.com)
