CANCELED: Wilderness First Aid

Event Details

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO LOW ATTENDANCE

What is it?

Wilderness First Aid (WFA) is the assessment of and treatment given to an ill or injured person in a remote environment where definitive care by a physician and/or rapid transport is not readily available. This is a 16 hours course and will take at least 16 hours to complete.

Why is this important?

This course goes far beyond what you may know as “first aid”. While it contains substantial medical information and teaches skills required for medical emergencies in the wild, the deeper purpose is to train participants to manage acute situations. The bottom line is this: Better decision-making at the incident scene miles from base facilities can save valuable time and human resources. It can save lives too. (This course is also a requirement to facilitate high adventure treks at all National High Adventure Bases.)

Prerequisites:

Must be 18 or older and have current CPR/AED Certification from an accredited source or must complete CPR/AED certification within 3 months. No card will be given without CPR/AED certification.

Cost:

$50 per person (online registration) Space is limited to 24. (Deadline 10/22/18)

Training Facility:

Bowen Lodge at Gus Blass Scout Reservation

Dates and times:

Friday October 26th (7pm) till Sunday October 28th (noon).

What to bring:

Backpack with usual gear for a wilderness camping trip (backpack, clothing, cooking gear, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, emergency first aid kit, etc.).

This is a hands-on training course. Be prepared for outdoor instruction in any weather. Head lamps/flashlights will be needed. It will likely be cold and/or wet outside. You must be there for the entire course, including evening classes.
