Virtual Merit Badge Class
Dates: July 7, 21, 28, Aug 4, and 11 - 6:30pm-8:00pm
Fee: $10
Who is this course for?
This course is for any Scout who wants to learn how to code (program) the machines that run the world around them. While any programming/computer knowledge is wonderful, no previous programming knowledge is required.
What will this course teach?
The merit badge is straightforward. We will be going over safety, history and general knowledge of programming. We will be discussing intellectual properties of computer programs. I will be teaching how to program (this will be covered over multiple sessions). Finally, we will be discussing careers in the programming field.
How will I be learning?
This course will be taught in a virtual classroom with a maximum of 10 students. The smaller class size will allow more communication between students and counselors. Participation is mandatory. Those who do not participate in the discussions will not receive the credit.
Attendance is required. If your already have a grasp of programming, you may opt to skip the two meetings where I teach programming. However, attendance is required for the other three. There are always unfortunate circumstances, and we can discuss other options if that should occur.
Prerequisites: Requirement 1a: BSA Cyber Chip (grade appropriate)

A laptop or desktop computer (keyboard required) with Windows 10. Windows 10 is not necessarily mandatory. The programming concepts will work with any environment. However, we will be discussing 3rd party editors, compilers and development environments for Windows 10 only.
