Fundamentals Parts 1 & 2 (formerly Trainer's EDGE)
Fundamentals Part 1: Science of Training & Fundamentals Part 2: Craft of Training
Great Scouting training starts with understanding how adults learn. Science of Training is the first half of the Fundamentals of Training series, which replaces Trainer's EDGE, and is designed for adult volunteers who teach or plan to teach Scouting America training at the unit or council level.
This course covers the principles behind effective training, including:
- How adults learn and what keeps them engaged
- Writing clear learning objectives
- Choosing the right training methods for your content and audience
- Structuring a session so it flows and sticks
- Creating a positive, inclusive learning environment
Science of Training builds the foundation for Part 2: Craft of Training, where participants put these principles into practice by presenting and receiving feedback.
Who should attend: Adult volunteers and professionals who serve, or want to serve, as trainers in their unit or for council programs. Completing both parts of Fundamentals of Training satisifies the trainer developement requirement for Wood Badge and NYLT staff and other advanced training roles.
