Grand Canyon Council Civic Service Committee

Council-wide Day of Service 

 

Mark your calendars!  The Grand Canyon Council Civic Service Committee, with leaders led by the 2020 Wood Badge Fox Patrol, are coordinating a Council-wide Day of Service to benefit our communities during the recovery efforts of the Corona Virus.  Nov. 14th, 2020 has been chosen as our day of action. Additional information will be released in the following months as the campaign is organized and details are finalized.

We ask that every participating unit register, so that we can share information with the unit civic service leader and point of contact! There are also several requested service opportunities for units to sign up for, listed below!

How to register your unit:

  1. Register for a Unit-organized service opportunity.
    • This is any service that your troop or pack may be doing on behalf of your chartered org., schools, houes of worship, local parks, or anything else arranged through the unit.
  2. Register for a service opportunity organized by the Fox Patrol Civic Service Team.
    • These options may be limited, but are great options for individuals or units who would like to volunteer somewhere but are unsure of how to get engaged! 

Service Opportunities:

  1. Mesa United Food Bank  - 20-25 volunteers requested
  • Time : 9am to 11am
  • Location: 358 E Javelina Ave Mesa AZ 85210
  • Task: Building Emergency Food Bags in an assembly line.
  • Must wear closed toed shoes. We accept 5 years and up with a guardian and waiver.
  • All volunteers must have a volunteer waiver signed by a legal guardian if under 18. The waiver is attached under "attachments" in this event. 
  1. Arizona Department of Transportation (AZDOT): up to 15 volunteers per location.
  • Up to 15 participants to clean up a stretch of highway per location, Participants must be at least 12 years old and will have to sign a waiver and watch a safety video (steps 3-7). The Dept. of Transportation will provide bags and safety vests which will be picked up from the regional AZDOT center. Service can be performed any time during daylight hours, but it is recommended your group arrange to clean at the same time! Registration must be confirmed by Nov. 5th so that we may provide the DOT a listing of names by the 6th so they can provide informaiton to volunteers.
    1. Surprise - US 60, mile markers 130-131 [Wittmann, AZ] near Shell Gas Station and Subway restaurant. Easy parking!
    2. Payson - SR 87, mile markers 250-251
    3. Globe - Awaiting confirmation from DOT. 
    4. Anthem - I-17 mile markers 232-233
    5. Fountain Hills - SR 87, mile markers 190-192 
    6. Prescott Valley - SR89A Spur, mile markers 329-330 
  1. Pass Mountain Trail Race Aid Station and Finish Line support (Usery Mountain Park): 6-10 volunteers
    • Time: 6:30am-2:00pm
    • Support runners during their 50k (31 mile), 25k, or 10k trail race with food, water, and light medical supplies at the midpoint aide station! The aid station coordinates are at 33°27'30.2"N 111°34'56.9"W, only 200 feet from the nearest neighborhood. All support materials will be provided, the race only needs support at the station!
    • 2-4 volunteers may also be needed at the finish line at 3939 N Usery Pass Rd
  2. Flag Retirement - Chandler AZ, Desert Breeze Park
    • ​​There will be an opportunity to retire flags at Desert Breeze Park in the Outdoor Skills area from 9 am to 1 pm.
    • Troops and packs can bring flags for retirement or retire flags that we have on site. 
    • Field uniform (Class A) is the appropriate attire.
    • The entrance to this area is off of Chandler Blvd, just west of McClintock on Desert Breeze Parkway. A map is attached and the space is marked with a red X.  Please see the map under "attachments" on this page.

 

Service Requests - to be arranged by units if they are interested

  • Youth 4 Troops
    • Seeking volunteers of all ages fill care packages with food and hygiene items that are shipped to our deployed soldiers. This may be arranged for a pack or troop meeting, or as a part of the monthly service opportunities. 
    • Youth for Troops has a few monthly activities that they host, including a Care Packages for Deployed Troops event, held on the second Monday of every month at the Outlets at Anthem. 
    • Contact us at youth4troops@gmail.com to participate in one of our monthly events or host a mobile event for your business, school, or organization.
