Climbing Instructor Level 1 Training

Climbing Instructor Level 1 Training
This fun training course is for volunteers interested in climbing and rappelling who would like to assist in Unit and Council sponsored activities as Scouting America certified Climbing Level 1 Instructors (at least 18 years old) and Instructors in Training (minimum 16 years old). You will learn how to assess and help set up a climbing activity site and conduct safe bouldering, climbing, and rappelling events in accordance with Scouting America guidelines. In addition, you will also learn how to supervise and administer the technical aspects of the preparation, activity planning, warm-up, safety, bouldering, spotting, anchoring systems, belaying set-ups, top roping systems, belaying practice, self-rescue, climber rescue techniques, and supervising climbing or rappelling activities, including teaching Climbing Merit Badge requirements. Please note that strong climbing skills are NOT required, although some experience is beneficial.
Please keep in mind that completing this course qualifies you to staff a climbing event, though not to run one independently - it's a great first step, and a prerequisite for more advanced climbing training in the future.
Participation: Minimum of 6 participants, maximum of 12.
Requirements: Participants must complete Climb On Safely (online), Safeguarding Youth Training (online), and have a current Scouting America Annual Health and Medical Record (Parts A&B)
