Mar 6, 2025 - 6:30pm-8:30pm AZ time (Arizona is 2 hours behind Eastern Time, know what time it is where you are.)
Mar 27, 2025 - 6:30pm-8:30pm AZ time (Arizona will be 3 hours behind Eastern Time on this date)
Fee: $10
Prerequisite: Age 13 or above - Important: Please see the course information document on this page and determine if you are willing to do the work before signing up. We will go over the requirements in class, however, the Scout will need to do all requirements outside of class. All requirements for this badge will be due by Mar 26, so we can discuss your answers on Mar 27. Read all the requirements prior to class, and get started on them early.
Before enrolling, Scouts should not be taking merit badge classes without their Scoutmaster's knowledge. Please make sure your Scoutmaster knows you are taking this virtual merit badge class and indicates the Initial Unit Leader Signature in the merit badge in Scoutbook (the Scoutmaster may alternately sign the front of a blue card for the badge instead if desired. This is a virtual class, please make sure your computer's microphone and camera work prior to class.
This class begins 6:30pm Arizona Time, if out of state, make sure you understand the time difference before registering
Subjects covered in this badge: (The class will be a kick-off with information to the Scout so they can successfully complete the badge. Most of the work they can do before or after the class.) The class will go over how to do the requirements, there will not be any requirements completed in class.
- Good Citizenship
- Locating local government buildings and sites
- Organization of the local & state government and elected offices and how are cities governed
- Scouts will have to attend a city, town, or county council or school board meeitng or a municiple, county or state court session (either in person or virtually)
- Discuss local issues
- Discuss how actions of one individual can have a positive effect on a community
- List local taxpayer funded services
- Scouts will have to volunteer 8 hours for a charitable organization outside of Scouting
- Present a public presentation (such as a video, slide show, speech, digital presentation, or photo exhibit) about important and unique aspects of your community to a group (can be the troop, patrol or group of friends)
Because this badge deals with local communites, and we have Scouts attending from all over, we will go over all the requirements during the class; however each Scout must individually submit answers for each requirement as it pertains to their community to obtain credit. Please carefully read the instructions for this class posted on this page. It is our recommendation that you utilize the optional merit badge worksbook also available on this page, to complete the requirements. We will explain more during the class.
A parent or guardian should be in the room with the Scout to audit the class.
