Grand Canyon Council Virtual Merit Badge Class

Dates: 

            Jan 6, 2025 - 6:30pm-8:30pm Arizona time

            Jan 27, 2025 - 6:30pm-8:30pm Arizona time

(This class begins at 6:30pm Arizona Time, if out of state, make sure you understand the time difference before registering - note the rest of the nation change their clocks on Nov 3rd.  We will be 2 hours behind ET on these dates.)

          You must attend both classes to complete!

Fee: $10

Prerequisites: 1, 2ab, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and Minimum age 13  

All merit badge requirements but requirement 2c and 2d  must be submitted and approved prior to the first class.

Before enrolling, Scouts should not be taking merit badge classes without their Scoutmaster's knowledge.  Scout's should talk to their Scoutmaster and make sure the Scoutmaster knows you are taking this virtual merit badge class and indicates the  Initial Unit Leader Signature in the merit badge in Scoutbook (the Scoutmaster may alternately sign the front of a blue card for the badge instead if desired.  Blue cards are available here: https://support.grandcanyonbsa.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/mb-app-blue-card-fillable.pdf  send the signed card to: bill.nelson@scouting.org )

This is a virtual class, please make sure your computer's microphone and camera work prior to class.

IMPORTANT:  

This badge teaches skills that should assist the Scout throughout their life.  The badge deals with 

• Task management and budgeting
• Saving and investing (incl: stocks, bonds, mutual funds)
• Insurance (e.g., health, auto, home and life)
• Loans and debt management (incl: credit scores, credit cards, interest rates/APR)

Please read over the additional material at this link to make sure that the Scout is prepared and able to understand these concepts and can put in the time to complete the prerequistites. Information on how to complete the requirements is on this page..  Read the information carefully before doing any work on this badge.  For example, requirement 2a must be done first before tracking your income and expenses

Requirement work must be done as an individual.

REQUIRED: Watch the video here before attempting the requirements.  It goes over some of the more complicated requirements.

Requirement 2 asks you to monitor your income and expenses for 13 weeks, the Scout does not have to have this requirement completed to take the course.  They can hand that requirement in later.  Do 2a dn 2b now and hand them in.  Make sure to do 2a and 2b prior to 2c. Submit requirements 2a and 2b immediately.

All merit badge requirements but requirement 2c and 2d  must be submitted and approved prior to the first class.

A parent or guardian should be in the room with the Scout to audit the zoom meeting.
