Grand Canyon Council Virtual Merit Badge Class

Do you enjoy reading and discovering new (or old) places and ideas?  If so, this will be an easy and enjoyable badge for you!

This is a very easy merit badge!

Dates: 

            Nov 13, 2024 - 6:30pm-8:30pm AZ time (note: Arizona does not use Daylight Savings Time, know when 6:30pm AZ time is where you are.  We will be 2 hours behind ET on this date)

          Dec 11, 2024 -  6:30pm-8:30pm AZ time 

Scouts need to attend both classes to complete the badge.

(This class begins at 6:30pm Arizona Time, if out of state, make sure you understand the time difference before registering - note the rest of the nation change their clocks on Nov 3rd.  We will be 2 hours behind ET on this date..)

Fee: $10

Important: Please see the course information document on this page and determine if you are willing to do the work before signing up. We will go over the requirements in class, however, the Scout will need to do all requirements outside of class.  All requirements for this badge will be due by Dec 11, read all the requirements prior to class, and get started on them early.

Before enrolling, Scouts should not be taking merit badge classes without their Scoutmaster's knowledge.  Pleasemake sure your Scoutmaster knows you are taking this virtual merit badge class and indicates the  Initial Unit Leader Signature in the merit badge in Scoutbook (the Scoutmaster may alternately sign the front of a blue card for the badge instead if desired.  Blue cards are available here: https://support.grandcanyonbsa.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/mb-app-blue-card-fillable.pdf  send the signed card to: bill.nelson@scouting.org )

This is a virtual class, please make sure your computer's microphone and camera work prior to class.

Subjects covered in this badge:  (The class will be a kick-off with information to the Scout so they can successfully complete the badge.  Most of the work they can do before or after the class.)  The class will go over how to do the requirements, there will not be any requirements completed in class.

• How to navigate a Library
• What can be found in books, manuals, and online.
• We will cover fiction, non-fiction and instructive resources and books.

We will go over all the requirements during the class; however each Scout must individually submit answers for each requirement to obtain credit.  Get started on the requirements early!   Please carefully read the instructions for this class posted on this page.  It is our recommendation that you utilize the optional merit badge worksbook also available on this page, to complete the requirements.  We will explain more during the class.

Scouts should start working on the requirements before the class.

A parent or guardian should be in the room with the Scout to audit the call.
