To receive an instructor certification card, you must participate in all sessions, demonstrate climbing activity training & supervision and pass a practical skills assessment.

A Tonto Pass is required to park at Coon Bluff. Only one Tonto Pass is required for Friday-Saturday overnight camping. A separate Tonto Pass is needed for the second weekend.

The Wednesday session and both Friday evenings will be classroom training. Saturday will include climbing and rappelling outdoors.  The second Saturday will apply instructor skills by assisting Scouts in bouldering, climbing and rappelling activities.

Overnight camping is available on site. There are bathrooms available. You'll need to bring your own tent and camping gear. If you live near enough to drive home at night, that's fine too.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided on Saturday. Friday night dinner is not provided (eat before arriving or bring food to eat while you're there).  Saturday, we'll be done before dinner. Please let the event contact, Dwain Wiltbank, know if you have any dietary restrictions so that we may plan the food accordingly.

Bring a water bottle, hat, and sunscreen. Wear comfortable, sturdy, supportive shoes. Climbing shoes are not required, but you're welcome to bring them. All climbing gear will be provided, but you're welcome to bring your own harness, gloves, and helmet. All personal gear will be inspected by the instructors. Please do not bring your own rope.
