SWIM CHECKS
No Swim Checks will be conducted at Lake Pleasant Camp
All scouts participating in an aquatics merit badge must complete the swimmers test before the first day of camp. The swim classification of scouts participating in any Boy Scouts of America activity or summer camp is a key element in both Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat. The swim tests must be renewed annually, preferably at the beginning of each outdoor/summer season, even if he has earned the Swimming merit badge. PLEASE NOTE: If your scout is registered in only non-aquatic merit badges and no other boating merit badge, he does NOT have to complete the swim check but will not be allowed in the water at any time.
Schedule your swim check today by contacting the Lake Pleasant Program Director, Natalie Harper, 602-372-7470

Can't make these swim test dates?
See below for other methods of completing a swim test.
Make sure to bring a Swim Test Classification Record to the Swim Check.
The Swim Test Classification Record form must be filled out & signed prior to camp. If you cannot attend one of the dates listed above, you must contact a qualified BSA Aquatics Instructor or a certified lifeguard to complete your swim check. You must pass the swim test in the current year in order to participate in the aquatics portion of the camp.
See Swim Test Classification Record attachment.
A scout must complete the following BSA Swimmer Test- Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy, resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be completed in one swim without stops and must include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.
Other options for completing a swim test:
A swim check may be conducted by a certified lifeguard at your local pool / community center. Please make sure the lifeguard follows the BSA Swimmer Test and signs the Swim Classification Record.
Also, Lake Pleasant Camp will accept swim tests completed at another BSA camp (i.e. Camp Geronimo or Raymond) only if it was completed during the current camping season and is signed by the test administrator. If a scout is going to attend another camp this summer PRIOR to attending Lake Pleasant Camp, please request a signed Swim Test Classification Record from the swim test administrator, as they may not give one otherwise. Obtaining this form is the responsibility of the scout, and Lake Pleasant Camp will not accept "verbal confirmation" from a parent or Scoutmaster
