2022 Powder Horn

Event Details

What is Powder Horn?

It's high adventure training!

Or rather, a high-adventure skills resource and experience course for Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scout leaders.

This course is for adult Scouters, youth Scouts in leadership roles ages 14+, Venture crews, and Sea Scout ships.

The ultimate goal is for the participants to experience first-hand each of the high-adventure activities, and then leave Powder Horn with a long list of ideas to help their program, along with the contacts and resources needed to implement them.

Frequently Asked Questions:

• You'll need to bring your own tent. I recommend bringing a camping chair, and other campsite amenities that you would enjoy on a campout. Campfires are allowed. Several nice bathrooms are available. All meals are provided.

• In each class you'll be able to experience the activity for that class. For example, rappelling: In the rappelling class you'll go rappelling off of a cliff, and then, later, when you take your own Scouts rappelling you'll look like an old pro. They'll be impressed by your savviness. You'll also be given the knowledge and resources necessary to successfully facilitate each activity for your own Scouts. This is not, however, instructor certification training. Rappelling requires that you have two certified instructors and we'll provide a list of certified instructors that you can contact to help you plan a great rappelling trip. You'll know what to do, where to go, and who to call to facilitate each high-adventure activity.

• It may seem like a lot of classes, but each participant will be able to attend every class on that list. Our goal is to make it well worth your time.
