March 2026 - NRA Basic Rifle & Certified Rifle Instructor Course

Intended for BSA Registered Leaders conducting Rifle Merit Badge and other BSA Rifle activities.

National BSA policy states that all firearms instruction and shooting activities shall be conducted under the supervision of an NRA instructor.

All Instructor candidates should have a good level of experience in Rifle shooting.

Minimum ages must be: Instructor = 21, Assistant Instructors = 18

Apprentice Instructors = 13

Pre-Requisites to attend the Instructor class portion include successfully completing the Basic Rifle course and passing a pre-qual test (all included)

Here’s how it breaks down: $195 for the complete course. **$175 if you do not require B.I.T. B.I.T. (Basic Instructor training)

Basic Rifle Course - Saturday March 14 - 8:00 am to 6:00 pm

Rifle Instructor Course - Sunday March 15 - 8:00 am to 7:00 pm

** If you are currently an active NRA Instructor in another discipline, and have taken B.I.T. within the last two years (at class time), technically, it is not required to re-take B.I.T.

NOTE: Class will be cancelled or rescheduled if minimim number of attendees is not attained. 

Another Note: Your full required Sessions Must Be Attended

You MUST pass written and practical tests to receive Certification.

Note that there is an additional fee paid directly to NRA for Instructor credentialing. If you are an NRA member it is $35, non-member $60, both good for two years. Members that already are instructors pay $15 to get the Rifle rating added.
