2021 Southern Illinois 9th Annual Merit Badge University

Event Details

Community of Faith Church and Troop 140 welcome you to their Merit Badge University (MBU) Saturday, November 6th from 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM. All merit badges offered will be conducted and supervised by a BSA approved merit badge counselor. The proper attire for all scouts is Class A Uniform unless otherwise designated as part of the merit badge requirements.

The Merit Badge University cost is only $5. An MBU patch will be included as part of the fee for all participating scouts. Additional patches will be sold separately for $5 each. Lunch will be offered separately as a fundraiser for Troop 140 for $5 and can be paid at check-in. Additional snacks and drinks will be available for sale throughout the event.

Each merit badge session will be limited to 8-15 scouts at the discretion of the merit badge counselor and COVID rules. Masks will be required while scouts are indoors and while they are not eating or drinking. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Email tlake@siu.edu your registration questions. Waivers will be required upon check in on the day of the event or can be emailed prior to the event to tlake@siu.edu. Class size is limited, so please register early.

The primary activities will take place at the Community of Faith Church, but some merit badges will be located off-site. Fishing merit badge will be conducted at the Shriners Lake, off Route 37, north of Marion. Scouts should check in with their counselors at the lake. The Golf merit badge will be conducted at Pine Lakes Golf course in Herrin. Scouts should check in at the church to meet their counselors. Any off-site merit badges may require additional adults to be YPT compliant, so please be willing and able to attend with your scouts who are going off-site, if needed.

We are going to be doing our best to keep everyone safe. Masks will be required to be worn at all times while indoors. We will be sanitizing classrooms, bathrooms and tables. If the weather permits we will be utilizing the outdoors so that you may comfortably remove your masks. Please dress for the weather.

Blue cards should be brought by the scout with a Scoutmaster signature for the Counselor to sign or they can be downloaded from the registration system approximately one week after the event.
